In principle, the lifespan of a consumer battery depends on 4 essential factors in addition to proper use. <\/p><p><br>1. Cycles<br>A battery cycle is defined as a discharge followed by a recharge. Depending on the duration and intensity of use, a very small or a very large current draw can be referred to as a cycle. However, the deeper the batteries are <br>discharged, the lower the number of cycles. Due to the extremely thick-meshed grid plates, Aquamot Longlife Silicon batteries achieve a top market level for lead-acid batteries of up to 950 cycles at 50% discharge   <\/p><p><br>2. Discharge current<br>In general, the higher the discharge current in relation to the capacity (= C-value), the shorter the battery life. The reason for this is that the battery itself also acts as a resistor. If the current is therefore higher, there is an increased <br>power loss (=heat) in the battery. Aquamot batteries have an extremely low resistance due to the innovative silicon technology.  <\/p><p><br>3. Temperature<br>According to the manufacturer&#8217;s specifications, commercially available batteries can only be used up to 40\u00b0C. Above this temperature, the internal cells would become too hot and suffer lasting damage. Since temperatures of up to 60\u00b0C in the engine room are not uncommon, especially in the boating sector, additional additives have been added to the electrolyte to guarantee high-temperature capability of up to 65\u00b0C.  <br><br><\/p><p>4. Age of the batteries<br>Batteries can \u201cage\u201d even without being used. A thin layer of corrosion forms on the lead plates. At a certain point, this layer is so thick that the battery can no longer be used. Unfortunately, this process cannot be prevented, only delayed.
